Eraserhead Baby

Here is something I've wanted to do for a long time (I had this idea after seeing Eraserhead, and then hanging around a suburban shopping mall).

Get your average baby carriage, and install a little Carlo Rambaldi-esque baby in it, made from uncoloured latex rubber. If you buy a jar of latex (which is white in its natural state), paint it over a modelling clay form and let it set, it comes out a funny brown colour, and if it gets wet again, it takes on a slimy appearance.

You could have little hydraulic tubes connected to the mouth, running up the handle-bars of the pram, so you could make the little critter twitch by subtle movements of your hands.

A hidden tape-recorder with gurgles and animal moans would be a nice touch.

Then you take this mobile performance art installation to the mall and parade it around like a proud parent.

I can just imagine some old bat coming up to make goo-goo eyes over your offspring, and seeing this... this slimy THING swaddled in yellow- stained nappies, gurgling and writhing. as she recoils in horror, you beam and say proudly, "He looks just like his mother..."
