talk.bizarre

This is a collection of (mostly short and sharp) postings to the talk.bizarre newsfroup. Yes, I said NEWSFROUP. Get with the program already. If you're looking for a particular post and it doesn't seem to be listed here, then try looking in the other sections.

The Lesser-Known Cenobites
For those who don't recognise the modern usage of the word, the Cenobites are characters from Clive Barker's Hellraiser films; a combination of torturing inquisition priest, leather fetishist and corpse. I've always wanted to be one.

Coroner to the Stars
A talk.bizarre short, on the concept of someone being `Coroner to the Stars' in an astrophysical sense.

The Dancing Man
This was written for a class in Short Story writing, inspired by the image at the top of the page. It has been printed in Inkshed 9 and i have read it out to various groups so many times that i am sick of it.

El Diablo 1 (killing skeletons)
Diablo is a simpler version of the old Rogue/Nethack dungeon-exploring game, with orthogonal-view graphics. I played it all the way through, and I was going through it again when it struck me that all of those skeletons I was brutally smashing on the first few levels had to have been inside people, once..

The Dirt
I have this problem: people seem to want to confide in me. I can imagine how a priest feels after a morning's worth of juicy confessions, with no-one except the lord above to confide in. I tried to exorcise this by making up some gossip I could spread, but I found it too difficult to tap-dance around all the gossip I really have.

Media, or The Play's the Thing
In one of his essays, William S Burroughs posed the question: what would happen if you kept cloning someone time after time - would they eventually fade out into white noise, like a photocopy? Well, this isn't anywhere near as interesting an idea (I just wanted to mention WSB); imagine taking a play and re-writing it for television; then re-writing that for cinema... and re-writing that for radio.. and so on. Imagine what you'd have left at the end.
